The big day has come and gone – you and your partner have shared your vows, you’ve taken the photos and celebrated with your loved ones set to the soundtrack by Vision DJs in a night to remember. But it’s not over yet. Here’s our handy guide to what comes next.
Opening the Presents
The day after your wedding in Miami, you’ll probably wake up to a big pile of unopened presents. And while it might be tempting to rip into them like a kid on Christmas day, taking a little care while opening will save you much stress later on. As you and your partner unwrap each gift, take the time to write a list of which guest gave you each item. This will help you later on when you’re writing the thank you cards and scratching your head to remember what is it you’re thanking them for.
Preserving your Gown
It’s a sad thought, but you may never wear your wedding gown again – unless you have a daughter in the future and you pass down the dress it may serve as a Halloween costume. But just because you won’t wear it again, it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t look after it. In fact, you’ll need to take extra measures to make sure it is stored away properly. Rather than taking your dress down to your local dry cleaners, do some research and find a company that specializes in wedding gown dry cleaning. They’ll look after your gown and make sure it is cleaned and put away properly with the correct tissue paper and packing – so that your dress will forever remain as gorgeous as it was the day you wore it.
Finalizing Your Photos
Your photographer may have taken potentially thousands of photos of your South Florida wedding. And if you’ve taken a deal where you only pay for the photographs you want to keep, you’ve got a big task ahead of you: sorting through them all.
The easiest way to sort through and choose your favorite photographs is by making a list of all the people and projects you need to keep photographs for. For example, you may want to include a photo in your thank you cards. You may also want to blow up a photo and give it to both of your parents. Maybe you want to create a scrap book? Write a list of all the types of photographs you need – this will help you later when it’s time to be ruthless. You might look like a beautiful couple in all of them – but how many photos of you and your partner gazing into each others’ eyes do you really need?
Changing Your Name
It’s important to remember that signing that marriage license with your surname does not mean your name has officially changed. After your wedding day, you’ll need that marriage license to help you change your name on many other official documents. First things first is your social security card. Though you’ll keep the same number, you’ll need to apply for a new card with your updated name. Once you’ve received that, everything else will be much easier to change. Some important documents to remember are: your driver’s license, bank accounts, passport, payroll at your office, utility bills … the list goes on. For an easier way to make sure you don’t leave anything out, name change services are available, which, for a small fee, will help you change your name with ease.
